Prospect Heights Block Party returns June 20 to celebrate city’s 50th anniversary

Milestone anniversaries for both the city and older park district will be celebrated when the Prospect Heights Block Party returns with an expanded layout on Saturday, June 20.

Activities will take place from 4 to 11 p.m. along Elm Street, McDonald Field, and Lions Park at 110 W. Camp McDonald Road.

Elm Street will be closed from Camp McDonald Road north to the library to accommodate the celebration. Admission is free.

The city of Prospect Heights’ 50th anniversary and the Prospect Heights Park District’s 60th are among the reasons one of the largest turnouts in the event’s history is expected.

“We are excited to bring the community together for what will be one of the biggest celebrations Prospect Heights has hosted in years,” park district Executive Director Christina Ferraro said in a statement. “This event reflects the strong partnerships, community pride and traditions that make Prospect Heights such a special place.”

To accommodate a larger crowd, the organizers have significantly expanded the footprint and parking plan. The concert stage will be outside the Lions Field left field fence, with spectators to gather on the ball field for the performance.

Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Additional food trucks, portable restrooms, traffic management measures and shuttle services are also being added.

The evening will feature live entertainment by 7th heaven and Hello Weekend, along with expanded food and beverage offerings, family activities and longtime community traditions.

The event also includes free outdoor swimming, indoor bingo and open gym activities, a Kid Zone with inflatables and a Gaga Pit at McDonald Field, face painters, stilt walkers, jugglers and other entertainers.

Guests can enjoy a variety of food trucks and a beer and wine garden with limited-edition souvenir cups. Local organizations and community groups will be present to share their information and resources.

Free parking will be available at McDonald Field, Lions Park and the library. Additional parking with shuttle transportation will be available at Old Orchard Country Club, 700 Rand Road; Eisenhower School, 1 N. Schoenbeck Road; Hebron Church, 515 N. Schoenbeck Road; and Betsy Ross Elementary School, 700 N. Schoenbeck Road.

The Prospect Heights Block Party is made possible by the collaboration of the Prospect Heights Park District, the city of Prospect Heights, community organizations, sponsors, volunteers and public safety partners. Chicago Executive Airport and Busey Bank are sponsors of the event.
