Downtown Aurora casino to close June 10 ahead of move to new location
The Hollywood Casino in downtown Aurora will close June 10 as it prepares to move to its new home.
The new $360 million casino will open on June 24, if it receives regulatory approval from state authorities.
Owner Penn Entertainment Inc. announced the dates on Tuesday.
The new casino is at 2500 N. Farnsworth Ave., near the Chicago Premium Outlets Mall and I-88. It will have about 1,200 gambling positions, a baccarat room and a sportsbook.
It also includes a 226-room hotel, a spa, bars, restaurants and a 12,000-square-foot event center.
The old casino will close at 6 a.m. June 10.
Unused chips from the old casino can be cashed in at the new casino until Dec. 31.
The original Hollywood Casino Aurora opened in 1993 on two riverboats. In the early 2000s, it was allowed to put the casino on a permanently moored barge.
The city lobbied for a change in state law so the casino could move to a site on dry land without having to get a new license from the state.
