Naperville house fire started near Christmas tree
An accidental fire that forced a Naperville family from its home Thursday apparently can be traced to a Christmas tree, authorities said Friday.
The house on the 3500 block of Redwing Court on the city's southwest side was left uninhabitable by the blaze that began about 4 p.m. near a live Christmas tree in the living room, Deputy Fire Chief Andy Dina said.
The fire spread quickly and much of the house was ablaze when firefighters arrived less than four minutes after the call. Dina called the fire's speedy spread "frightening."
"Our crews got there very quickly and the majority of that first floor was involved in flames," he said.
Paramedics evaluated four family members who were inside when the fire started, and all refused treatment. Dina said firefighters later learned one resident was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville by a relative for treatment of unknown injuries.
Firefighters stayed on scene for roughly four hours.
Dina said there was significant damage throughout house. A neighboring house also was damaged by the heat.
