Democratic Women of DuPage County honors Pam Taylor at annual Tinker Harvey Brunch
Democratic Women of DuPage County recently hosted its annual Kathryn “Tinker” Harvey Leadership Brunch at Abbington Banquets, bringing together Democratic leaders, elected officials, activists and community members to celebrate women in public service, and honor this year’s Tinker Harvey Award recipient, Pam Taylor.
Named for Kathryn “Tinker” Harvey, the award recognizes a DuPage County Democratic woman who has demonstrated outstanding activism and service in support of Democratic values.
Harvey, who died in 2013, was a pioneering advocate for the Democratic Party in DuPage County for nearly five decades and was a founding member of the organizations Illinois Democratic Women and Democratic Women of DuPage County.
Taylor, a lifelong Illinoisan and Democrat, was recognized for her years of behind-the-scenes service and dedication to Democratic organizing in DuPage County.
A court reporter for more than 50 years, Taylor became involved in advocacy through the Illinois Court Reporters Association, later serving as its president and working with elected officials across the state on issues affecting court reporters and fair wages.
After becoming more active in local Democratic politics, Taylor joined the Democratic Women of DuPage County in 2020 and became a precinct committeeperson. She currently serves on the organization’s programs committee, where she helps coordinate many of the group’s major events and initiatives.
“Pam exemplifies the spirit of service, resilience and community-building that this award represents,” said Barb O’Meara, president. “We are deeply grateful for her years of dedication to our organization and to advancing Democratic values.”
The brunch provided an opportunity for attendees to connect with elected officials and candidates from across DuPage County. Among those in attendance were DuPage County Board Chair Deb Conroy and congressional candidate Melissa Bean.
During the event, the Democratic Women of DuPage County also presented financial contributions to 17 Democratic women candidates running for office in DuPage County in support of their campaigns for the November election.
