Fire goalkeeper and Naperville native Chris Brady to represent United States at World Cup

Chicago Fire goalkeeper Chris Brady, a Naperville native, has been named to the U.S. team for the upcoming World Cup, a source confirmed Saturday.

Brady, 22, signed with the Fire in 2020 to a homegrown contract after joining the Fire Academy in 2017. He has appeared in 105 games for the Fire senior team. He has started all 13 Fire games this season, allowing just 15 goals with a 74.1 save percentage.

Brady has yet to appear in a match for the senior U.S. national team. He is expected to be the third goalkeeper behind the more experienced Matt Turner and Matt Freese.

The United States opens World Cup pool play on June 12 against Paraguay. Group D play continues June 19 vs. Australia and June 25 vs. Turkiye.

The news was first reported by The Guardian.

U.S. Soccer is scheduled to officially announce the full roster Tuesday.
