Ineffective policy

In the “Daily Herald” edition of 05/18/26, a front-page article states Illinois will be banning the Bradford pear tree due to the invasive problems it causes. The ban will take effect on Jan. 1, 2028, so that nurseries can sell their remaining stock of the tree. If the Bradford pear causes so many environmental problems the ban should be immediate and no more trees sold. The remaining stock should be destroyed and the state of Illinois ought to reimburse the nurseries for their losses.
