Hanover Park man in custody after Sunday night standoff
The Hanover Park Police Department safely took an armed, suicidal man into custody Sunday night after a standoff that lasted hours, officials said.
Officers responded to a report of an armed man inside a home on the 6500 block of Church Street around 10 p.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the Hanover Park Police Department.
Upon arrival, police attempted to establish contact with the man, while also evacuating his family and residents of nearby homes.
After a prolonged standoff with the man, members of the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System Emergency Services Team arrived to assist. According to the release, at least two shots were fired inside the home during the encounter.
After some negotiation, the man was arrested and later taken to a local hospital for treatment, the release stated.
The incident is under investigation.
