Pregnancy centers also provide support

I read with interest the article and follow-up editorial regarding a free program by the Cook County Department of Public Health called “Healthy Beginnings.” It is a program that helps new mothers with infants by providing in-home nursing assistance and support. I found it ironic that this good program goes against what Attorney General Kwame Raoul and other Democratic attorneys general have tried to do against pregnancy resource centers, which provide much of the same type of services.

Raoul and others have tried to close down PRCs by claiming that they give out false information regarding fetal development. They even have tried to force these PRCs to give out information about abortion, even though it goes against their mission and faith values. Fortunately, Raoul backed off after a lawsuit was filed and a pending ruling was in favor of the PRCs.

PRCs, such as TLC Pregnancy Services, Waterleaf, Aid for Women and The Women’s Centers of Greater Chicagoland, give women facing a crisis pregnancy the support and care they deserve. They also provide physical supplies, education and, in some cases, financial assistance — all at no cost to the taxpayers. They rely on donations and fundraisers.

Why do Raoul and other attorneys general, such as Rob Bonta of California, want to do away with PRCs? Because PRCs advocate for life instead of abortion.

If anything, we should support PRCs so they can support women who are in need.
