Misleading letter
Kevin Coyne’s recent letter to the editor was very misleading and false. Blaming Democrats for the $50,000 raise Deb Conroy just scored is completely disingenuous, as was Sam Tornatore’s tirade at the County Board’s meeting about how transparent the whole raise process was.
Raises were in fact on the agenda, as alluded by Tornatore, but a much lower level, when Tornatore decided out of left field to increase it by 35% (or was it a back-room deal?). That in this time of economic uncertainty, when many people in DuPage County are trying to figure out if it is going to be food for the family or gas for the car this week, that he should bestow the Chair Deb Conroy with an extra $50,000 in pay for her part-time elected job is completely tone dear.
In case there is any doubt here, Tornatore is a Republican. The raise passed out of Finance with only five Democratic votes. When it got to the full board, they bundled all their raises into the one vote, and the vote count went up to nine Democratic votes, with Lynn LaPlante being the lone Democrat present who voted with her mind on her constituents.
