Lake County authorities investigate officer-involved shooting in Mundelein
Lake County authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Mundelein that left a woman dead.
According to a news release from the Lake County Major Crime Task Force, police were called to a home on the 1100 block of Ashbrook Drive just before 6 p.m. Monday.
A caller informed police a female relative was threatening to harm herself and stated she “wanted the police to kill her.”
When officers arrived, the woman was seated on the back patio. Officers were speaking with the caller when the woman stood up and approached the rear sliding doors, armed with two knives.
Police said the woman began yelling and “aggressively opened” the sliding doors to enter the home. An officer inside the home then shot the woman.
The woman was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy Tuesday showed the 37-year-old Mundelein woman died from “multiple gunshot wounds.”
The officer who shot her was also taken to a hospital for evaluation, authorities said.
The task force is leading the investigation of the shooting.
