South Elgin gas station sells million-dollar ticket
A scratch-off ticket purchased on a whim at a South Elgin gas station turned into a $1 million prize for an Illinois Lottery player.
The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, purchased the $10 Million Bankroll Instant Ticket after her original selection was sold out.
She scratched off the $50 ticket in the parking lot after purchasing it at the Speedway, located at 1775 N. Lafox St.
“I kept asking myself, ‘Am I reading this correctly?’” she said in a news release from the Illinois Lottery. “I was in complete shock — I couldn’t believe it. It felt like destiny.”
The winner said she plans to celebrate with travel and a new home.
“My husband and I are huge Nintendo fans — we’re thinking about visiting Nintendo World in Florida and possibly taking a tropical cruise,” she said.
The Speedway location will earn one percent of the prize amount, totaling $10,000.
