Buffalo Theatre Ensemble announces 40th anniversary season
To mark its 40th anniversary, Buffalo Theatre Ensemble will devote its 2026-2027 season to well-loved literary adaptations.
“These plays, filled with humor and heart, are a thank you to our loyal patrons and an open invitation to new friends to experience Buffalo Theatre Ensemble during this milestone season,” said managing artistic director Daniel Millhouse in a prepared statement.
The season commences Nov. 12 with “Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women,” adapted by playwright Lauren Gunderson from Louisa May Alcott’s novel about four sisters growing up in New England during the Civil War.
That’s followed by Jeffrey Hatcher’s adaptation of Frederick Knott’s 1952 stage thriller “Dial M for Murder” (Jan. 28-Feb. 28, 2027), about a husband plotting to kill his wealthy wife. Steve Scott directs.
The season concludes with Richard Bean’s “One Man, Two Guvnors” (May 6-June 6, 2027). Based on 18th-century Italian playwright Carol Goldoni’s commedia dell’arte tale “The Servant of Two Masters,” Bean’s farce centers on impoverished musician Francis Henshall, who accidentally winds up working for a gangster and an “upper class twist” and must juggle to serve both “guvnors.” Connie Canaday Howard directs.
Performances take place at the McAninch Arts Center, College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn.
