15-year-old charged with deadly shooting of Streamwood man in Palatine

Palatine police have charged a 15-year-old boy in connection with the March shooting death of a 20-year-old Streamwood man.

Police found the victim, Kevin K. Koonce, at about 9:39 p.m. March 16 on the 1200 block of East Prairie Brook Drive. He was inside a vehicle that had struck multiple parked cars. He had suffered a gunshot wound.

Koonce was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Palatine officers and detectives arrested the teen shortly before 7:30 a.m. Thursday. He is charged with one count of first-degree murder and was taken to a Cook County juvenile detention center.

He is scheduled to appear in court Friday.

Due to the age of the offender, no additional identifying information is being released at this time, police said.
