The source of the fracture

Letter writer Charles Danyus asks: “Is today's Hollywood and the mainstream media responsible for much of the fracture in America?” He also asks: “Do you remember when everyone from Charlie Daniels to Michael Jackson performed at the Reagan White House?”

Yes, I do remember that, and I also remember that, while I may have disagreed with Reagan's politics, he was a good and decent man who mostly tried to do the right thing for the American people.

What I don't remember is Reagan or any other former president threatening to wipe out an entire civilization for not bending the knee to their will, or castigating political opponents as “vile and disgusting” and “the enemy within” and any number of other insults. I don't remember any other presidents who completely destroyed part of the White House, the people's house, without any plans or approvals at all. I don't remember anyone in office receiving a $400 million luxury jet from a foreign government as a “gift.”

I could go on and on here, but you get the idea. Most Hollywood superstars who have any dignity and common sense stay as far away from things that are toxic, like this administration, and it has nothing to do with them or the mainstream media.
