New grocer coming to former Dominick’s site in Buffalo Grove
The long-vacant former Dominick’s space in Buffalo Grove’s Chase Plaza development will have a second new tenant — and it turns out to be a grocery store.
Village officials confirmed this week that Sprouts Farmers Market — a national specialty grocer with more than 480 stores across 25 states — will open at 1160 W. Lake-Cook Road. It will occupy about 27,000 square feet, filling space alongside Club Studio, a fitness tenant previously announced for the site.
Meanwhile, the developer, Shorewood Development Group, has closed on the former Dominick’s building and has an active building permit to carry out demolition and other remodeling work.
“This is exactly the kind of transformative investment our community has been waiting for,” said Village President Eric Smith. “After more than a decade of vacancy along our Lake-Cook Road corridor, this project represents meaningful progress — bringing new energy, quality retail and renewed momentum to a long-prioritized site.”
The store is expected to open in 2027.
This week, the village board approved a development improvement agreement with SDG Lake Cook LLC, the entity affiliated with Shorewood, formalizing the financial and construction obligations tied to the Phase One redevelopment of Chase Plaza.
Under the agreement, the developer is required to deposit a letter of credit in the amount of $2.2 million as security for the completion of required site improvements, including stormwater management, parking lot resurfacing, EV charging station installation and utility infrastructure upgrades.
All improvements must be completed within 36 months of the agreement’s execution.
Landing the new grocer means the Lake-Cook Corridor will be book ended by grocers — Sprouts and Whole Foods, which is opening at The Clove development at Lake-Cook and McHenry roads.
“Buffalo Grove is a very strong grocery market and has been for many years,” Village Manager Dane Bragg said. “It just adds to that diversity of grocery offerings that we're going to have.”
