Letter reflects a divided nation
Michael Imhof of Aurora wrote an opinion about the government shutdown published on April 6. It’s a whopper. He blames Democratic voters for it and implies “they” are all in opposition to Judeo-Christian values. I suppose he thinks the current pope is part of this collective “they” as he has spoken out against Trump’s war on Iran.
Then he blames mainstream media for its propaganda encouraging people to vote Democratic and says the Democrats are on an anti-Christ global agenda. Really? Are you off your medicine?
He thinks Christians should not vote for Democrats and feels that the Democrats are anti-American.
Well what a barrel of utter nonsense.
First of all, issues are rarely this simple. Do you really think that all Democrats are anti-Christian and devoid of morals? His article reads like extreme propaganda, baseless, rambling, emotional and devoid of reasons and rationales.
I once saw a documentary called “Mein Kampf,” which detailed the rise of Hitler and fascism in Germany before WW II. Mr. Imhof’s rhetoric reminds me of what I saw then: outright lies, finger-pointing with one agenda, to blame Jews for all the ills of the country, with the promise that all will be well if they were removed. And was it?
No good ever comes from hatred. No good ever comes from blaming one side for all the problems we have. No good ever comes from painting all with one stroke from the same brush. Look no further than Nazi Germany to see that.
This letter reflects how divided we are as a nation now. It will never get better with attitudes like Mr. Imhof and many others have. I won’t waste time trying to counterpoint his ideas. Either you see it, or you don’t, and if you don’t, I can’t help you. His words stoke the fires of ignorance and hatred, and I am sure others’ words have stoked his own.
