Buffalo Grove High School employee critically injured after crash near the school

A Buffalo Grove High School staff member is in critical condition after a crash near the school Tuesday afternoon, Buffalo Grove police said.

Officers responded to the crash at about 3:20 p.m. Police said it originated on school grounds as a vehicle was attempting to exit the parking lot onto Dundee Road.

The vehicle left the roadway and struck a pole, which then struck the staff member.

Buffalo Grove police officers were on the scene immediately to provide emergency medical aid. The staff member was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“This is a tragic incident which has deeply impacted our high school community,” Police Chief Brian Budds said. “Our thoughts are with the staff member, their loved ones, and all those impacted during this difficult time.”

Dundee Road was closed for about 3.5 hours following the incident, and the driver of the vehicle has been fully cooperating, police said.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Buffalo Grove Police Department Traffic Unit, with assistance from the Major Crash Assistance Team.
