Teen killed after crashing vehicle in Rolling Meadows industrial park

An 18-year-old man was killed when police say he crashed his vehicle in a Rolling Meadows industrial park late Wednesday.

Rolling Meadows police said the crash happened just after 9:45 p.m. on the 3600 block of Industrial Avenue.

The driver was identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Emilio D. Amaro. No hometown was given.

Police said Amaro was driving west on Euclid Avenue approaching Rohlwing Road with his vehicle’s headlights off when he passed a marked patrol car headed north on Rohlwing at Euclid.

The officer attempted to follow the car, but lost sight of it temporarily, then heard a “loud noise.” The officer went to investigate the noise and discovered Amaro’s vehicle crashed and partially submerged in a stormwater detention area.

Emergency workers removed an unconscious Amaro from his vehicle and attempted to resuscitate him, but were unsuccessful.

The crash is still under investigation. The cause and manner of Amaro’s death are pending toxicology results, according to the medical examiner’s office.
