Aurora man accused of pointing gun at off-duty cop

An Aurora man is now facing felony charges after he pointed a handgun at an off-duty police officer on Dec. 30, officials said.

The Kane County state's attorney's office charged Salvador Hernandez, 25, with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault and driving without a valid license, according to police.

Police said the officer was driving about a mile from Hernandez's home when she was almost hit by Hernandez driving a Jeep Liberty. The officer confronted Hernandez, who pointed a semiautomatic handgun at her and then drove off.

Police located Hernandez's vehicle at his home and arrested him while he tried to escape out a back window. After obtaining a search waiver, police recovered the weapon that was pointed at the officer, officials said.

Two other men, ages 25 and 28, who were in the vehicle with Hernandez at the time, were not charged, according to police.
