Antioch teacher teaches top five in national competition
Brianna Emerson, a second grade teacher and Antioch native, has surged into the “Top 10" in the national America’s Favorite Teacher competition. Currently holding second place in her group, Emerson is calling on the community for a final push to help her secure the number-one spot.
Emerson, who teaches in a district that serves Antioch, Lake Villa and Lindenhurst, says her mission is to bring this honor home for the entire community.
“Our district is ‘all in’ for our students across Antioch, Lake Villa and Lindenhurst,” Emerson said. “I would love to represent all three of these towns on a national stage and show ‘my kids’ what we can achieve when the whole community stands together.”
The competition supports Bill Nye’s Planetary Society, and honors educators who make a lasting impact on their students. Having grown up in the area herself, Emerson views her students as her own family. The grand prize includes $25,000, a trip to Hawaii, and a school assembly hosted by Bill Nye the Science guy.
Community members can cast 1 free vote every 24 hours to help Emerson reach first place. A Facebook login is required by the competition to verify and cast your vote.
