Police: Missing Elk Grove man found dead in pond

Authorities say there is no evidence of foul play in the death of a man whose body was found in an Elk Grove Village pond Thursday afternoon.

Police identified the man as Alexis Ramirez, 26, of Elk Grove Village. Ramirez went missing March 10, police said, after he was the driver in a single-vehicle accident near Higgins Road and Brennan Boulevard, a short distance from the pond’s location in the 700 block of Innovation Boulevard.

Authorities said they believe Ramirez fled the scene of the crash. An extensive search after the crash, using a police dog, drone and sonar equipment, as well as interviews with family and friends, did not produce any information that led investigators to Ramirez’s location, police said.

Ramirez’s fully clothed body was found in the pond at about 3:21 p.m. Thursday, officials said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office was notified and will investigate the cause and manner of death.
