Police: Man broke into Huntley home planning to kill resident
A 21-year-old Melrose Park man faces charges alleging he broke into a Huntley home Friday night planning to lie in wait and murder its owner.
Juan A. Dela Cruz Lopez, of the 100 block of North 23rd Avenue, is charged with attempted murder and residential burglary, Huntley police said Sunday.
According to police, officers called to a home in the 13200 block of Sierra Glen Road on Friday evening and found Dela Cruz Lopez hiding inside and armed with a knife.
An investigation indicated Dela Cruz Lopez had entered through an open garage door and was waiting inside to confront and kill the homeowner, police said.
Police did not disclose a suspected motive, saying Sunday that because the case remains an active investigation they are not releasing additional details at this time.
Kane County records indicate Dela Cruz Lopez was in custody Sunday at the county jail and is scheduled to appear in court April 15.
