Geneva High School celebrates 150 years with spring musical and community events
Geneva Community High School is inviting alumni, families, and community members to help celebrate a major milestone as the school marks its 150th anniversary during the closing night of the spring musical, “Chicago: Teen Edition,” on Saturday, April 25.
The celebration honors a long tradition of excellence at Geneva High School, including more than a century of student involvement in the performing arts.
To commemorate the occasion, the school has planned activities designed to showcase its history, facilities, and student achievements while welcoming the broader community back to campus.
Festivities begin with a student-led open house from 4 to 5 p.m., hosted by members of the GHS Student Advisory Board. Guests will enjoy guided tours that highlight recent improvements and special features across the school, including a walk along Viking Boulevard to view a new historical timeline created by the Geneva History Museum with assistance from students.
Visitors will also see the newly renovated library and watch demonstrations from the RoboVikes robotics team in the Viking Commons.
From 5 to 6 p.m., guests are invited to enjoy dinner in the GHS cafeteria, featuring pasta, salad, and bread catered by Aurelio’s of Geneva. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the GHS Theater Boosters and help support future student productions.
The evening concludes with the 7 p.m. closing performance of “Chicago: Teen Edition”: in the school auditorium, celebrating both the school’s theatrical legacy and its current student performers. There is also a 2 p.m. performance for those who would prefer to see the show before dinner.
The open house portion of the event is free and does not require registration. Dinner tickets and musical tickets are $15 each for adults and may be purchased separately or together in advance.
“This is a celebration not just of a building or a performance, but of generations of students, staff, and community members who have been part of Geneva High School,” said organizers. “We hope alumni and community members will join us for this special evening.”
All members of the Geneva community are encouraged to attend and take part in honoring 150 years of Geneva Community High School.
