2 charged with robbing Bensenville gas station
Two men are charged with robbing a Casey’s gas station early Monday in Bensenville.
Tavon Williams, 28, of the 8100 block of South Harper Avenue in Chicago, is charged with armed robbery, possession of a gun by a repeat felony offender, having a loaded gun in the passenger compartment of a vehicle, aggravated unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle and aggravated fleeing and eluding police, all felonies.
Robert Hoes, 26, of the 8300 block of South Drexel Avenue in Chicago, is charged with aggravated robbery with a firearm, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, aggravated battery of a peace officer and resisting a peace officer, according to DuPage County circuit court records. All are felonies.
Authorities say they entered the Casey’s at 1225 Devon Ave. around 2:21 a.m. Williams hopped over a counter and pointed a handgun at the clerk, and Hoes went behind the counter and grabbed two cash registers.
Several minutes after they left, Villa Park police noticed the car that had been reported used in the robbery, doing 105 mph on St. Charles Road near North Avenue.
Police chased the vehicle onto eastbound I-290 and used tire-deflating spikes to stop it. They say, according to court records, that Williams threw a gun underneath the car, which eventually crashed into a median.
Hoes is accused of punching an Elmhurst police officer in the face during his arrest.
On Tuesday, a judge ordered that they be detained pretrial.
