Arlington Heights couple charged with vandalizing Wheeling Township Republican office
An Arlington Heights couple face misdemeanor charges in connection with the vandalism of the Wheeling Township Republican office in January.
Brock McNerney, 72, and Moisette McNerney, 69, of the 1200 block of East Clarendon Avenue, are charged with criminal damage to property and criminal defacement of property, Arlington Heights police announced Tuesday evening.
They were arrested without incident Monday and released pending their initial court appearance, police said.
With assistance and information from the public, police detectives said their investigation into the Jan. 25 vandalism of the Republicans of Wheeling Township headquarters led them to identifying the couple as culprits.
Video surveillance at the office, 909 E. Rand Road, captured two people drawing swastikas and profanities in permanent marker on the windows, and tossing feces and an unknown liquid by the front door. Some of the markings defaced a portrait of Charlie Kirk, the slain conservative activist who was born in Arlington Heights and volunteered at the local GOP office as a Wheeling High School student years ago.
The local political organization decided to install the camera after a similar incident of vandalism on Dec. 20.
The charges announced Tuesday pertain only to the Jan. 25 incident, police said.
