Two charged with fleeing police in DuPage in separate incidents

Two Chicago men have been charged with fleeing from police on I-88 in DuPage County in two separate events.

Terrance Barber, 38, of the 9400 block of South Yale Avenue, is charged with felony aggravated fleeing and eluding and misdemeanor driving while license revoked. On Sunday, a judge ordered that he be detained pretrial.

Kalvin Johnson, 36, of the 800 block of North Karlov Avenue, is charged with felony burglary, felony aggravated fleeing and eluding and multiple misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses.

Oak Brook police say they received information March 2 about a vehicle involved in a retail theft. They said they found the vehicle in Lombard and that Barber was driving it. Officers followed the vehicle onto the eastbound I-88 and tried to pull it over. Authorities say he drove on the left shoulder, at speeds reaching 100 mph. Officers stopped the pursuit for safety reasons.

An arrest warrant was issued March 9, and Barber was arrested March 15.

In the second incident, around 12:51 a.m. Monday, Elmhurst police began following an Infiniti FX35, suspecting the driver had been involved in burglarizing a vehicle.

They followed the car to an apartment complex in the 1900 block of Continental Avenue in Naperville. There, police say, Johnson broke into a work van, removed tools and placed them in his vehicle.

When an officer approached the Infiniti, Johnson drove away and got onto I-88 eastbound, driving up to 120 mph.

A Hinsdale police officer attempted to stop the car but ended the chase due to wet road conditions.

Johnson was found in the 5800 block of St. Charles Road in Berkeley. Police say he got out of the Infiniti and into an Uber ride. Elmhurst police arrested him at 1:16 a.m.

According to a prosecutor’s petition to detain Johnson, Johnson told police he took the tools and would sell them at a flea market.
