Lake sheriff’s deputy injured in Gurnee crash

A Lake County sheriff’s deputy is recovering from injuries suffered in a crash Saturday night in Gurnee.

The crash occurred about 10:55 p.m. in the intersection of Route 21 and Grand Avenue, according to the sheriff’s office.

A preliminary investigation indicated the deputy was driving south on Route 21 when her vehicle was struck by Toyota SUV that made a left turn onto westbound Grand Avenue directly in front of her, officials said.

The deputy was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and released, the sheriff’s office reported.

The driver of the SUV, a 44-year-old Park City man, was not injured, authorities said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Gurnee Police Department and Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.

While officers and deputies were blocking roadways at the scene, three separate drivers, at different times, drove around the traffic control points, sheriff’s police said. Each driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, authorities said.
