Congressman leads on animal welfare

For voters who care about animal welfare and stopping cruelty to animals, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi is the clear choice in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate in Illinois.

During his five terms in Congress, Rep. Krishnamoorthi has compiled one of the strongest records on animal protection in the entire chamber. He has consistently supported legislation to combat animal fighting, strengthen enforcement against cruelty, protect wildlife and improve the treatment of animals in agriculture and research. In the current Congress, he is a cosponsor of major bipartisan measures including the Animal Cruelty Enforcement Act and the FBI Animal Cruelty Taskforce Act to build capacity to enforce the laws against animal cruelty, the FIGHT Act to crack down on dogfighting and cockfighting, the SAFE Act to ban horse slaughter, and the Puppy Protection Act to prevent the abuse of dogs on puppy mills.

He is fighting GOP efforts to overturn state farm animal welfare laws and opposed reckless efforts to weaken endangered-species Act protections for wildlife, including gray wolves.

Rep. Krishnamoorthi will enter the Senate as a national leader for humane public policy. Democrats should strongly back him if animal welfare matters to you.
