Republican candidates discuss issues in primary for U.S. Senate
The candidates for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senator from Illinois met recently with representatives of the Daily Herald Editorial Board and a news reporter to discuss issues in the campaign.
The winning candidate will face one of 10 Democrats seeking that party’s nomination for a spot on the November ballot. The winner in November will replace Sen. Richard Durbin, the longtime Democrat who announced his retirement at the end of the current term.
Because of the large number of primary candidates, the Republicans were divided into two separate groups. These included R. Cary Caparelli, Casey Chlebek, Jeannie Evans, Pamela Denise Long, Jimmy Lee Tillman II and Donald Tracy.
In each interview the candidates discussed issues including U.S. foreign policy, immigration, economic policy and more.
