Will golf simulators fill vacant storefront in Mundelein?
A place for golfers to practice their swings on indoor simulators while enjoying cold beverages is planned for Mundelein’s east side.
Entrepreneur Nathan Groenendal of Long Grove wants to open Golf Haus in a shopping center at 734 S. Butterfield Road. The last tenant in the storefront was M & M Cyclery, which closed a few years ago.
Golf Haus would be a club for members and their guests, Groenendal told the village board during a public presentation Monday night. It would be open around the clock, seven days a week.
Golf lessons would be available, as would facility rentals for events.
Self-serve beverage taps would provide alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks, once customers have checked in with a host and provided ID that proves they’re at least 21 years old, documents indicate. Groenendal said he intends to partner with Mundelein’s Tighthead Brewing Co. for beer, wine and soft drinks.
Golf Haus won’t have a kitchen, but food would be available from nearby restaurants.
Groenendal hopes to open Golf Haus by Sept. 1, village documents indicate.
Groenendal appeared before the board Monday to see if trustees are interested in awarding the business a liquor license. He received positive feedback and encouragement.
“Go get ‘em,” Trustee Kara Lambert said. “I’m all for it.”
Mayor Robin Meier was enthusiastic about the plan, too.
“Thank you for coming to Mundelein,” she said. “It sounds like a new, exciting thing.”
