How does ICE hurt elections?

DuPage County Clerk Jean Kaczmarek admonished ICE to stay away from polling places during the upcoming election. In the Daily Herald article, she states that “it is a myth that non-citizens vote on Election Day.”

This is where I am confused.

If our elections are secure and the claim that non-citizens are voting is indeed a myth, then why would the presence of ICE near polling places be a concern? If the system is functioning properly and only eligible citizens are voting, ICE would presumably have no reason to intervene.

For those who view ICE as unnecessary or inappropriate in this context, I would respectfully ask: if elections are as “clean” as stated, what difference would ICE’s presence make?

I believe this question deserves a clear and thoughtful answer.
