Aurora man sentenced to prison after two incidents of battery to a peace officer

An Aurora man has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison after two different incidents of battery to a peace officer, including one that left an Aurora police officer with multiple facial fractures, authorities announced Friday.

Zackery Moore, 36, of the 200 block of Oakview Avenue, was convicted in December of felony battery to a peace officer causing great bodily harm and misdemeanor resisting a peace officer, according to a news release from the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.

Authorities said Moore’s first offense took place on Aug. 6, 2024, when he resisted an Aurora police officer trying to stop him for questioning after reports of a suspicious person fitting his description.

After ignoring multiple orders to stop, authorities said, the officer attempted to grab Moore, who then struck the officer in the face and fled. Moore continued to resist when he was arrested by additional officers nearby.

The injured officer was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he was treated for multiple facial fractures, prosecutors said.

Five months later, while he was awaiting trial in the Kane County jail, Moore refused orders from Kane County sheriff’s officers trying to secure him in his cell. Prosecutors say Moore pushed his cell door open, grabbed an officer and refused to let go until he was stunned with a Taser.

Moore is eligible for day-for-day sentencing and receives credit for 576 days served in the Kane County jail.
