Marklund seeks volunteers for inaugural Elgin 5K Run, Walk & Roll event

The Marklund organization is issuing a callout for volunteers to help out in various capacities at its upcoming Inaugural Run, Walk & Roll-Elgin 5K/1Mile event set for Sunday, April 26. This new fundraiser starts and finishes at the Marklund Wasmond Center, 1435 Summit St. in Elgin.

According to race director Lauren Spitler, volunteers provide support as course marshals, race sweepers, food tent assistants, registration assistants, and course cheerleaders on the day of the event beginning at 7 a.m. Most Volunteer needs will finish by 10 a.m.

“Volunteers are integral to making this a successful event,” Spitler said. “It’s not only a way to support Marklund and the residents/students we serve, but to be a part of a new event in the Elgin community.”

As a thank you for giving of their time, Marklund will provide volunteers with a complimentary shirt (first-come, first served for size selection), morning snacks and beverages.

People who wish to help as Course Marshals to help direct runners and traffic, and Race Sweepers who will be the last to walk the 5K course to make sure all participants have finished, need to be at least 18 years old.

For all other positions, the age requirement is 14 or older. Individuals and groups are welcome. Register at www.marklund.org/5k, or reach out to race director Lauren Spitler at lspitler@marklund.org.
