Palatine man charged with trying to disarm officer during arrest
A 34-year-old Palatine man is facing a felony charge after police said he tried to take an officer’s gun while being placed under arrest.
Billy Logan is charged with attempting to disarm a peace officer as well as several misdemeanors related to his Tuesday arrest at an apartment complex on the 800 block of West Panorama Drive.
Officers were called to the complex at about 9:20 p.m. by neighbors reporting an intoxicated man was banging on doors and trying to gain entry into a unit, according to a police department news release.
Officers encountered Logan in a hallway holding a glass bottle. When officers attempted to arrest Logan, he became combative and at one point reached for an officer’s holster and made contact with the weapon, police said. The gun remained holstered during the struggle and Logan was ultimately subdued.
Logan granted pretrial release at a hearing Thursday. His next court date is April 6.
