Bar associations release judicial candidate recommendations

The Illinois State Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association, the state’s two largest organizations of their kind, have released recommendations for judicial candidates running in the March 17 primary.

Cook County

In Cook County, the Illinois State Bar Association and Chicago Bar Association deemed Judith C. Rice qualified for the Appellate Court.

In countywide races for the Circuit Court of Cook County, the CBA found D’Anthony “Tony” Thedford highly qualified and the ISBA found him qualified. The CBA and the ISBA rated Steven Q. McKenzie, Luz Maria Toledo, Linda Sackey, Ashonta C. Rice, Michael Cabonargi and Ava George Stewart “qualified.”

In the 11th Subcircuit, which includes parts of Elk Grove, Maine, Norwood Park, Leyden, Proviso and Oak Park townships along with some Chicago neighborhoods, both organizations found Jarrett Knox, John R. Carrozza and Kim Przekota qualified.

In the 13th Subcircuit, which includes parts of Schaumburg, Palatine, Barrington and Hanover townships, the ISBA and the CBA found Robert “Bob” Groebner, William F. Kelly and Dan Naranjo qualified. The ISBA found Brittany Michelle Pederson not qualified while the CBA found Pederson qualified.

DuPage County

In DuPage County, for the Third District Appellate Court, Jason A. Helland and Margaret “Peggy” O’Connell are recommended by the state bar association. John Pavich is highly recommended and Mark Senak is not recommended.

In the 4th Subcircuit of DuPage County’s 18th Circuit, Michael Fleming and Christina Kye received “recommended” ratings. In the county’s 5th Subcircuit, Terra Costa Howard received a “recommended” rating.

Kane, Lake and McHenry counties

The ISBA indicates no judicial vacancies in Kane County’s 16th Circuit, in Lake County’s 19th Circuit and in McHenry County’s 22nd Circuit courts.
