Endorsement: Hoxie for Cook County Board District 15 in Republican primary

Being a Republican on the Cook County Board is a lonely job.

Only one Republican currently sits on the board.

Republican voters in District 15, which represents the far northwestern corner of the county, will have a choice on March 17 in who will advance to the November election.

Gabriella Hoxie of Schaumburg and Daniel Lee of Hoffman Estates are vying for the chance to face Democrat Ted Mason in November. The seat is open because incumbent Kevin Morrison is running for Congress.

Hoxie, a communications analyst in the office of the Illinois House Republican leader, believes the board needs stronger fiscal oversight and a more disciplined approach to spending.

Lee, a small-business owner and 30-year resident of Cook County, says he would bring conservative values and fiscal responsibility back to the board.

Both candidates are looking to energize a voter base that feels like its voice isn’t being heard on the board.

Hoxie’s experience in government should enable her to hit the ground running if elected. Her work with constituent services and outreach should be useful for a district on the edge of the county.

We applaud Lee for running and hope he continues to seek ways to serve.

We think Hoxie has what it takes to reach across the aisle and work with a heavily Democratic-controlled board if elected. She is endorsed.
