DAR chapter recognizes local seniors as Good Citizens

On Feb. 7, the Elias Kent Kane Chapter, NSDAR recognized five local high school students as winners of the DAR Good Citizens Award.

The Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest was created in 1934 to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.

A high school senior who demonstrates dependability, service, leadership and patriotism is nominated by their teachers as their school’s DAR Good Citizen. The local DAR chapter then selects one student to compete at the district level, where they may be chosen to go on to the state and national scholarship competitions.

The recipients of this year’s local DAR Good Citizens Award are: Emmeline Aimee Anderson of Geneva High School, Reese Kelly Thomas of St. Charles North High School, Haylee Elizabeth Kaliski of St. Charles East High School, Kendall Ann Pemberton of St. Edward Central Catholic High School, and Charlotte Anne Johansen of Batavia High School.

Selected seniors were presented with a Good Citizens pin, a certificate and a monetary award at a ceremony held at the St. Charles Public Library and hosted by the Elias Kent Kane Chapter of the NSDAR.

This year, Haylee Elizabeth Kaliski was selected as Elias Kent Kane Chapter’s Good Citizen nominee to compete at the district level.

“As Regent, I am proud to honor our DAR Good Citizens winners,” said DAR Regent Christine Harmon. “Their leadership, service, and patriotism reflect the values we cherish, and their example gives us great confidence in the next generation.”
