Weeks matter

When is a week not a week? Lately, it’s when “Restaurant Week” is in one of the suburbs.

I live in Glen Ellyn, and its “Restaurant Week” started Feb. 20 and ends March 1. I checked my calendar, since that didn’t seem right and that’s not seven days, but 10. It turns out many suburbs having “Restaurant Week” vary the length of their week, some from five to 15 days.

I didn’t realize we had the option to vary our ways of measuring time. What about a change of name instead, like a February food fest? Or a January Restaurant Revival or something else creative? Or, actually only having the restaurant deals last a week?

It matters to be accurate. We need to set the example and use correct words. When we say the word “week” we need to mean seven days.
