Fire damages Geneva garage:

No one was hurt when a fire damaged the attached garage of a townhouse in Geneva. According to a news release from the Geneva Fire Department, firefighters responded to the 2000 block of Vanderbilt Drive on the west side of Geneva at about 5:15 p.m. Thursday for a reported garage fire at a two-story, multi-unit townhouse. Firefighters found light smoke coming from the attached two-car garage. The garage sprinkler system had activated, holding the fire in check prior to their arrival. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within 20 minutes. All occupants of the townhouse had evacuated before firefighters arrived. The fire originated in the garage, and the rest of the townhouse remains habitable.

Gunfire investigation in Aurora:

No injuries were reported after an Aurora police officer heard gunshots in a neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, authorities said. The officer heard gunshots in the area of High and Superior streets at about 3:25 p.m. Police secured the area and located a 23-year-old man nearby whose involvement is under investigation, authorities said Thursday. The man was taken to a hospital for evaluation. No one was struck by gunfire, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call the department’s Investigations Division at (630) 256-5500.

Indoor art fair in Des Plaines:

The Des Plaines Art Guild and the GENCenter are teaming to host an indoor art fair this weekend. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the GENCenter, 52 E. Northwest Highway, Des Plaines. Admission is free. Restaurant seeks liquor license:

A newly opened restaurant in Des Plaines could be awarded a liquor license Tuesday night. The Des Plaines City Council is scheduled to give final approval for a license for Krasa Burgers and Shawarma, 1262 Lee St. The restaurant opened in late January. It’s a sister restaurant to a similarly named joint at 1141 N. Ashland Ave. in Chicago. Tuesday’s council meeting is set for 7 p.m. at city hall, 1420 Miner St.

COD forum on campus facilities:

College of DuPage will hold a public forum with consultants working on a new facilities master plan for the campus in Glen Ellyn. The event is set for noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, in the student services center atrium at the school, 425 Fawell Blvd. Hosted by SmithGroup, the session will include a timeline overview, a look at the process so far and next steps. There will also be opportunities for feedback, including an interactive activity. The consulting firm is tasked with taking stock of the community college’s existing facilities and planning for future needs in infrastructure, land use and sustainability. The final plan is expected in June 2026.
