Man fatally shot by Waukegan police identified

Lake County authorities on Monday said a man fatally shot by police Saturday in Waukegan suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Ricardo Delafuente, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting in the 1000 block of Leith Avenue, police said Sunday.

According to Waukegan police, the shooting occurred after three officers responded to a 911 call at 3 p.m. Saturday about a man who had attempted suicide. No other injuries were reported.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office reported Monday that Delafuente died from multiple gunshot wounds, but provided no other on the extent of his injuries because of an ongoing investigation.

The Illinois State Police Public Integrity Unit leading the investigation.
