Early voting to begin Tuesday in DuPage County after delay

Early voting will begin in DuPage County starting Tuesday, Feb. 10.

Though initially scheduled to start on Feb. 5, the DuPage County Clerk’s Office last week decided to delay early voting as they waited for word on unresolved candidate objections.

DuPage voters can vote in one of five locations including the Addison Township office at 401 N. Addison Road in Addison; the Bartlett Community Center at 700 S. Bartlett Road in Bartlett, Downers Grove Village Hall located at 850 Curtiss St. in Downers Grove, the DuPage County Fairgrounds at 2015 Manchester Road in Wheaton and the Naperville Municipal Center located at 400 S. Eagle St. in Naperville.

Early voting locations are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. Expanded early voting locations and hours will be available March 2.

The county clerk’s office will also send out its first batch of mail-in ballots by the end of the week to residents who requested to vote by mail. The county is expected to send ballots to about 70,000 residents in its first mailing, said Adam Johnson, chief deputy clerk for the DuPage County Clerk’s office.

Early voting was delayed last week in DuPage County as courts considered appeals for Joe Severino, a Republican candidate for governor facing challenges to his candidacy and Republican Tedora Brown, a candidate facing objections to her bid for the 11th Congressional District seat.

“I want to take every precaution to ensure the integrity of the ballot and protect the rights of DuPage County voters and candidates,” DuPage County Clerk Jean Kaczmarek said in a statement last week.

A ruling on Friday and additional guidance from the Illinois State Board of Elections prompted the county clerk’s office to remove both names from the ballot. Johnson noted that spaces for write-in candidates will appear in both the governor and 11th Congressional District races.
