Before the big game, a big run in Geneva
Before filling up on chips, wings and beverages during Sunday’s Super Bowl, dozens of runners hit the streets of Geneva to preemptively burn off some of the extra calories.
The 16th annual Super Shuffle 5K featured athletes of all ages and abilities conquering a course that started and finished at Geneva Middle School South.
Besides offering from pregame exercise, the event also serves as a fundraiser for the Geneva Park District Scholarship Fund, which provides recreational opportunities for the community.
Among the runners was Rick Andersen of Elgin.
“It’s challenging — definitely too cold to be out here, but it’s fun,” he said. “It’s a sense of accomplishment.”
After the race, those looking to get a head start on the day’s revelry headed over to the Stephen Persinger Recreation Center of a party with drinks, a football toss, a raffle and more.
