State police investigating deadly officer-involved shooting in Waukegan

The Illinois State Police Public Integrity Unit will head up the investigation into a deadly officer-involved shooting Saturday afternoon in Waukegan.

The shooting occurred just before 3 p.m. when three Waukegan police officers responded to a 911 call about a man who had attempted suicide in the 1000 block of Leith Avenue, authorities said Sunday.

Police did not provide details as to how the shooting occurred, but said a 58-year-old Waukegan man was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

More information will be released when the state police investigation is complete, officials said Sunday.
