Fire causes $375K damage to Hoffman Estates home

A resident and her pets escaped without injury from a house fire Saturday morning in Hoffman Estates, while one firefighter suffered minor injuries.

According to a news release from the Hoffman Estates Fire Department, at 8:19 a.m., firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on the 300 block of Navajo Lane. Fire and smoke were showing from a one-story single-family home. The alarm was upgraded for a working structure fire. One occupant exited the home and reported her pets were still inside; firefighters were able to rescue the pets and extinguish the fire.

The Hoffman Estates Fire Department as well as the Streamwood, Schaumburg, and Inverness fire departments responded to the scene. The Elk Grove, Roselle, Barrington Countryside, and Elgin fire departments assisted with providing station coverage. Further assistance was provided by the Hoffman Estates Police Department, Hoffman Estates Public Works, Hanover Township Emergency Services, ComEd, and NICOR.

No civilians were injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the initial loss estimate is $375,700. According to the fire department, the house was not equipped with a residential sprinkler system and did not have working smoke detectors.
