Long Grove’s iconic covered bridge takes another smack
Yet another vehicle struck Long Grove’s iconic covered bridge at Robert Parker Coffin Road Wednesday evening. Village officials said this is the 73rd strike since the bridge reopened in August 2020.
But, as Village President Bill Jacob keeps pointing out, “The bridge always wins.”
In other words, the vehicle always gets the worst of it, as does the driver, who winds up with a ticket. Jacob also notes it is the bridge cover, not the bridge, that takes the impact.
Jacob said Wednesday’s strike happened at about 6:48 p.m.
A box truck got stuck under the bridge, necessitating a visit from the sheriff and the services of a tow truck. The driver was issued a ticket.
