Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Rolling Meadows dies

Rolling Meadows police said the pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Algonquin Road Wednesday morning has died.

Rolling Meadows resident William Capozzielli, 70, who lived on the 2800 block of Algonquin Road, was pronounced dead at 1:29 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Rolling Meadows police said officers responded to the area of Algonquin Road and Meadowbrook Industrial Court at 9:15 a.m.

Arriving officers found an adult man down in the road and was ultimately transported to a hospital.

Police said the driver of the vehicle is cooperating with authorities.

The investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed.

Safety concerns near the intersection were raised as recently as Tuesday night’s Rolling Meadows Planning and Zoning Commission meeting. The meeting focused on the proposal to bring the 180 Chicago Church to a building at 5550 Meadowbrook Industrial Court.

Assistant City Manager and Community Development Director Glen Cole said people from the Elizabeth Place neighborhood voiced their concerns about traffic.

He said the Traffic Review Committee is going to be looking at the issue, adding improvements are planned.

Meadowbrook comes in at an oblique angle. Plans are in the works to realign it where it meets Algonquin. The city is working on acquiring land to make it intersect at a 90-degree angle.

He added Algonquin Road is a state route, so it is difficult to install signals when one is already located nearby at Algonquin Road and Weber Drive.
