Pedestrian struck by vehicle near intersection Rolling Meadows is reviewing for redesign

A pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning in Rolling Meadows, authorities said.

Rolling Meadows police said officers responded to the area of Algonquin Road and Meadowbrook Industrial Court at 9:15 a.m.

Arriving officers found an adult man down in the roadway and was ultimately transported to a hospital.

Police said the driver of the vehicle is cooperating with authorities.

The identity of the pedestrian was not released.

During the crash investigation, Algonquin Road between Barker Avenue and New Wilke Road is closed to both east and westbound traffic. The closure is expected to carry into the afternoon hours or longer.

Police are advising the public to monitor the Rolling Meadows Police Department social media for road closure information.

Safety concerns near the intersection were raised at Tuesday night’s Rolling Meadows Planning and Zoning Commission meeting. The meeting focused on the proposal to bring the 180 Chicago Church to a building at 5550 Meadowbrook Industrial Court.

Assistant City Manager and Community Development Director Glen Cole said people from the Elizabeth Place neighborhood voiced their concerns about traffic.

He said the Traffic Review Committee is going to be looking at the issue, adding improvements are planned.

Meadowbrook comes in at an oblique angle. Plans are in the works to realign it where it meets Algonquin. The city is working on acquiring land to make it intersect at a 90-degree angle.

He added Algonquin Road is a state route, so it is difficult to install signals when one is already located nearby at Algonquin Road and Weber Drive.
