Man killed, woman injured in Grayslake crash

A man is dead and a woman is injured after a crash Monday afternoon in Grayslake.

Grayslake Police responded just before 2:15 p.m. to a reported accident on Washington Street and Atkinson Road, officials said.

A black Volkswagen – driven by a 19-year-old man – was traveling east on Washington when it struck a blue Toyota SUV – driven by an 86-year-old woman, which was traveling west on Washington and attempting to turn south onto Atkinson Road. The Volkswagen subsequently swerved off the roadway and hit a traffic light pole, officials said.

The man was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead. The woman also was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries that are not life-threatening.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
