Hoffman Estates police dog back on duty after injury

Hoffman Estates police dog Ajax is back on duty thanks to some skilled veterinarians and help from a national organization that assists law enforcement canines.

Ajax sustained a mouth injury during a routine training exercise in November, according to the police department.

Through a grant provided by the National Police Dog Foundation, he received specialized care at the Veterinary Dental Center in Aurora, including a successful dental implant procedure, police said.

Now he’s been cleared for a return to duty his vital role in protecting and serving the Hoffman Estates community,

“We are deeply grateful to the National Police Dog Foundation for stepping in to help us care for Ajax,” Chief Kasia Cawley said in an announcement of Ajax’s return. “Our K9 officers are vital to the safety of our community, and this support ensures Ajax can continue serving alongside his handler.”
