Minor injuries sustained in Aurora house fire
A resident was injured early Sunday morning during a house fire in Aurora.
The Aurora Fire Department responded around 2:14 a.m. to a house in the 600 block of West Downer Place.
Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire on the rear of a three-story single-family wood-frame house.
It reported that the home was “heavily congested” with contents, complicating efforts to navigate and control the fire.
The resident sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. A firefighter was injured, but did not require treatment.
The house is uninhabitable. Its two residents are staying with a neighbor.
“This incident highlights the importance of having working smoke alarms and an evacuation plan in place,” Deputy Chief Kevin Nickel said in a news release.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
